TIDAL WAVE FOR TARGET'S BUNKER!
After our fundraiser, "Turning votes into voices", which raised more than $5000, I decided I wanted to continue my fundraising efforts for Target's Bunker, and make my hero dog, Target one of the ongoing causes I support. So, I started a new fundraiser, "A Tidal Wave for Target's Bunker". And, I'm encouraging people all over the world to help raise funds and awareness for Target's Bunker so a tidal wave of support is created! Target saved the lives of many soldiers in Afghanistan when a suicide bomber walked into a Border Patrol compound. Target, along with two other stray dogs, attacked the bomber. Despite the bombing... she survived. SGT Terry Young adopted Target, and brought her back to live with him in Arizona. One Friday afternoon, Target got out of the yard, and ended up in a shelter. Tragically, by Monday morning, she was erroneously euthanized. Target's Bunker has been formed with the hope of keeping another tragedy like Target's from happening ever again.
DONORS During the month of January, 2011, $5074 was raised during our fundraiser, "Turning Votes into Voices", thanks to our generous donors! We presented a check to SGT Terry Young, and his family in late January to be used for Target's Bunker!
Click here to read the press release On January 7th, I was contacted by USA Today, and told I was one of five nominees in the "Most Heroic Dog of 2010" contest. I was excited, and honored. I started asking my supporters to vote for me, but quickly started feeling awkward about it... like it just wasn't right. A sense of sadness fell over me.
I asked mom to get in touch with Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog's mom, and ask if they felt the same. Sure enough... they did. So we decided to turn our votes into voices. Mom contacted Target's dad, SGT Terry Young, and asked if it would be ok to celebrate Target's life & help raise awareness of HER cause. Target saved the lives of many soldiers in Afghanistan, only to lose hers by being erroneously euthanized by an officer at a shelter in Arizona. Her cause is Target's Bunker, and organization formed by the family with the hope of keeping another tragedy like Target's from happening ever again. Target's Bunker is in it's infancy stages. They don't have a non profit set up yet. So, until they do, I'm leading a fundraiser with my co-nominee, Sparkles to celebrate Target's life & raise funds/awareness. Target's "dad", said "Its funny to think of Target associated with someone named Ricochet." But, I say Target had something to do with me being nominated with her. She knows my YouTube video went viral, and that I re-direct the millions of viewers, along with my Facebook supporters to other causes. She knows Sparkles, although no longer physically with us, is still making a difference, and has supporters. So, together, with our combined supporters, and YOUR help... we can get the word out about Target Bunker's mission. Please help us spread the word about our campaign. And, I say to my FURiend, Target at Rainbow Bridge, we ALL will help you raise more awareness & funds for Target's Bunker! You have saved many lives, and will save many more. Thank you for your trust with this project! As SGT Terry Young so eloquently states, "In her life, Target helped save the lives of many soldiers in Afghanistan, in her death, she will continue to be the hero everyone remembers by saving the lives of many animals. Target's love and companionship will be forever ingrained in every aspect of the Bunker." Target is MY hero! And, I thank her for pointing me in the direction of Target's Bunker. Thank you to USA Today for giving me the honor of being considered for such an amazing title, and pointing me in the direction of Target. And, thank you to my fellow nominee, Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog for your spirit in joining me in turning our votes into voices for Target during the month of January, 2011. UPDATE: On January 12th, USA Today announced Target was indeed the "Most Heroic Dog of 2010". We knew that all along, but we celebrate Target's life, the lives she saved, and the lives she will continue saving.
UPDATE: On January 31st, we wrote a check to SGT Terry Young for
$5074, which ended the "Turning votes into Voices" fundraiser.
