A WHEELCHAIR FOR TAMANDRA

Please help me thank TiLite!! TiLite Wheelchairs has been so incredibly generous & helpful. I contacted them to help me, and my friend Tamandra, who needed a new wheelchair because her current one is dangerous (see below). They donated a wheelchair (see below) worth over $5000!!! I don't know how to thank them enough! Can you please help me? If you're on Facebook, please "like" their page, and thank them for helping Surf Dog Ricochet & Tamandra. My friend Tamandra has spina bifida, and has been disabled from birth. She uses a wheelchair. A wheelchair that doesn't fit her properly. A wheelchair that is dangerous. Due to the poor fit, she started to get pressure sores, and found herself forced to stay in bed and off her hind end for a whole year of her life. Different attempts were made to try and fix the problems, but nothing helped. She began "face planting"... when the chair hit a bump or crack, or other obstacle while traversing, it lurched forward, and threw her out of her chair and onto the ground. She has to strap her legs in because the chair is too short from front to back. So, when she flips out of her chair, she's also stuck in it, and has to undo her legs to be free. Then, because the chair is too short in the wheelbase, she can't get back into it from the ground, and has to wait until a stranger passes by to help. One time, she flipped over and cracked her head open on the sidewalk... ouch!

Back in November of 2009, the unthinkable happened... the frame snapped in half down by the front wheel, and it slammed her into the sidewalk very hard. The previous company welded the chair together, but she's very scared being in this chair, especially with her feet having to be strapped in because of the poor fit. She has flipped over backwards several times because of the configuration, and the last time, she ended up with staples in her head. She lives in fear that the welded portion will break at random, and cause serious injury.

Just a couple weeks ago, the chair flipped over backwards in her kitchen, causing her to slam her head into a cabinet. She gashed her head in two places, and one of the gashes a flap was torn from her skull. She required 14 staples in one gash, and 23 in the other.

She is afraid to leave her house as this last accident was very traumatic for her. She has restricted her activities, which includes her livelihood of a pet photography business, Heart Dog Studios she's trying to get off the ground. She uses this income to help pay for her service dog's therapy for a herniated disc which includes acupuncture, massage and chiropractic care.

When I heard pawful the details, I knew I HAD to do something to help!! So, I contacted a company called TiLite. They make custom wheelchairs completely to the individual's specifications!! I shared my SURFice dog video with them, and explained how I try to paw it forward by helping others. They immediately wanted to help too! They are donating a custom chair for Tamandra!!! TiLite... you are PAWMAZING!

The chair will be made of Titanium, which is more forgiving of impacts, and will not under any circumstances, break! The TiLite ZR is the perfect chair for Tamandra, as it's the lightest weight in the industry, which will make it so easy for her to take apart when putting in her vehicle. With frog leg shock absorbing castors, traversing over rough sidewalks will be much less challenging. The chair will have Spinergy wheels, a Jay# back, which will be extremely beneficial for her spinal curvature and posture. It will also help stabilize her in the chair. The chair is worth over $5000, and I can't thank TiLite enough for becoming one of my donors, and making a HUGE difference in Tamandra's life!!!
