SURF DOG RICOCHET RIDES THE
WAVE TO HER $100,000th DOLLAR DONATION!
MORE THAN 150 HUMAN/ANIMAL CAUSES BENEFIT AS SHE
ACHIEVES THIS MAJOR FUNDRAISING MILESTONE!
SAN DIEGO, CA,
July 26, 2011…
Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who lives a lifestyle of helping
others by pawing it forward, while raising funds and awareness for
human/animal causes just reached a new milestone... raising her $100,000th
dollar for charity!
Ricochet has been raising awareness and funds for human/animal causes since
she surfed with her first beneficiary, quadriplegic surfer, Patrick Ivison
on August 20, 2009.
Twenty one months later, on July 25, 2011, she raised her $100,000th dollar for the
New Jersey, SPCA, in honor of
Patrick The Miracle Dog... bringing her fundraising journey full circle!
During
these 21 months, she held over 40 fundraisers, and raised funds/awareness
for more than 150 human/animal causes including disabilities, adaptive surfing,
illness/disease, childhood cancer, breast cancer, autism, military veterans
and their dogs, K9 cancer, disabled pets, shelters, rescues, animal welfare
organizations, and more.
Most of her fundraising has been done through social media
such as Twitter, her popular
Facebook Page with more than 40,000 amazingly supportive fans, and her
inspirational
"From Service dog to SURFice dog" video that went viral on YouTube,
which also reached a new milestone today of more than 3.5 million views.
She's the only known dog in the world that
surfs with special needs kids, and people with disabilities for therapeutic
purposes. She counter-balances the board to keep disabled surfers from
falling off, or encourages children to get on board to experience the
healing power of the ocean! She also surfs in surf dog contests, and
recently came in 2nd place in the
Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, which was the event two years a go that
at re-directed her service dog course to one of SURFice.
She looks forward to raising
even more awareness and funds, and has several fundraisers currently going
on, including one for K9 cancer, her causes fund, and the
Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon. She was the top fundraiser at the
Surf-A-Thon last year, and in fact was the highest fundraising dog from all
previous years. She set a goal of raising more than her personal best this
year! To donate to this fundraiser, or any of her others, go to
http://www.surfdogricochet.com.Reaching
this major milestone demonstrates how much Ricochet's worldwide community
supports her efforts. She sincerely thanks her individual donors, Facebook
& Twitter supporters, corporate donors and sponsors.
Next up for Ricochet is a 2
year anniversary surf session on August 20th with quadriplegic surfer,
Patrick Ivison. She will be surfing with the
Association of Amputee Surfers, attending the VA Sports Clinic,
competing in the
Surf City Surf Dog competition, which she is a charity partner for, and
working with special needs kids at the
Best Day Foundation event.
She is also involved in
several other initiatives, including an anti-bullying campaign, shelter dog
project, and
Public service announcements to give a voice to animals, and help create
awareness and educate people about responsible pet stewardship.

DOG RICOCHET ACHIEVES NEW MILESTONE- 30,000 FANS ON FACEBOOK...
& CELEBRATES BY DONATING $6500 TO 20 DIFFERENT HUMAN/ANIMAL CAUSES!
ALMOST $90,000 RAISED FOR CHARITY IN THE LAST 18 MONTHS!
SAN
DIEGO, CA, June 6, 2011... Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice
dog who lives a lifestyle of helping others by pawing it forward, has
reached a new milestone - 30,000 fans on Facebook! Her very supportive fan
base has also helped her raise almost $90,000 in donations for human/animal
causes!
Ricochet
started her Facebook page,
"Surf Dog Ricochet" to help raise awareness and funds for her causes.
Now, not only has she reached the 30,000 fan milestone, but almost $90,000
in donations have been raised. Many people join her page after watching her
inspirational YouTube video, "From Service Dog to SURFice dog" (http://bit.ly/9jZ5uV).
The video went viral with more than 3.4 million views, and touches people on
many different levels, bringing them to tears.
Ricochet wanted to do something very
special to celebrate the approaching 30,000 fan milestone. So, in the spirit
of helping others, she started a campaign called "Pass the Buck." She asked
her Facebook followers, and donors to donate just one dollar (more if they
wished), and in just 24 hours, $1000 was raised. Then, she invited nonprofit
human/animal causes to submit their information to become potential
recipients of the funds raised. 40 causes participated.
When
Explore.org/Dog Bless You heard what Ricochet was doing, they very
generously awarded a $5000 grant to her campaign. Explore.org is led by
Founder, Charles Annenberg Weingarten, who says "The mission of Explore.org
is to champion the selfless acts of others, to create a portal into the soul
of humanity, and to inspire life long learning. The most important thing for
me, is to create a portal into the soul. What is the easiest way to do this?
Through dogs - they see into our souls like no other. That is why as we
build Dog Bless You, we move forward with the mission to champion the
selfless acts of animals."
Also coming on board with a donation was
Miss Rosie's Canine Creations, who donated $1.00 for every new fan to
her page received through Ricochet, up to $250. Ricochet's Faacebook fans,
donors and causes all rallied together, and $6500 was raised by the time she
reached her 30,000 fan milestone!
The funds were split between 20 causes,
whose names were picked at random from paper ballots. Ricochet's service dog
sister, Rina picked each ballot individually. $500 went to the first 10
causes picked, $200 to the next five causes picked, and $100 for the
remaining five causes. The recipients included The A.skate Foundation, Best
Day Foundation, Big Dogs Huge Paws, Chase Away K9 Cancer, Collin County
Humane Society, Fight Abuse in the Home, For the Love of Animals, Friendly
Giants Dog Rescue, Helen Woodward Animal Center, Humane Society of Central
Texas, Human Society of West Alabama, K9 Resque, Lost & Found K9 Rescue,

PRESS
RELEASE
APRIL 28,
2011
IS INTERNATONAL PAY IT FORWARD DAY!
AMBASSADOR, SURF DOG RICOCHET PAWS IT FORWARD BY HELPING
12 YEAR OLD GIRL WITH IN-OPERABLE BRAIN TUMOR SPREAD JOY
SAN DIEGO,
CA,
April 27,
2011…
Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog, is an Ambassador for Pay It Forward Day,
which will be held around the world on April 28,
2011.
Ricochet is encouraging people around the globe to perform random acts of
kindness. She's also Pawing It Forward by helping a 12 year old girl with an
in-operable brain tumor spread joy.
The idea
of Pay It
Forward Day, is for people to do one good deed for three others.
When recipients ask how they can re-pay the favor, which can be big or
small, they are instructed topay It forward to three more people.
With each good deed, the cycle of generosity and kindness will ripple across
the world, making us all better people.
Ricochet
has a very special Paw It Forward project this Year. She's raising awareness
and funds for 12 year, Jessica Joy Rees, who was recently diagnosed with an
in-operable brain tumor. When Jessica found she had a tumor, she realized
there were a lot of people who wanted to help her. But, she also realized
there are a lot of people who NEED help. She wants to spread joy through
herJoy Jars!
Joy Jars are Jessie's dream, and a new way to help spread Joy to children
who are hospitalized or fighting serious medical conditions. Ricochet was
immediately connected to Jessie's spirit of wanting to help others because
spreading joy parallels her initiative of Pawing It Forward. So, Ricochet
created a fundraiser, "Pawing It Forward to Help Jessie Spread Joy".
Jessica and her family formed a non profit organization called The NEGU
Foundation,
which
stands for Never Ever Give Up... Jessica's motto! Jessica has
inspired thousands of people to NEGU! The Foundation will deliver Hope and
Joy to children who have received a diagnosis similar to Jessica’s, and help
fund cancer research.
The Joy Jars are part of The NEGU Foundation. There is obvious
overhead in making the jars, and that's where Ricochet's fundraiser comes
in. If you'd like more info on how to help Ricochet "Paw It Forward to Help
Jessie Spread Joy", or to make a donation, go to
http://www.surfdogricochet.com/Help%20Jessie%20Spread%20Joy.htm.
Thank you
for supporting Ricochet's fundraiser, and making Jessie's dream come true.

SURF
DOG RICOCHET RECEIVES PROCLAMATION FROM MAYOR
PROCLAIMING APRIL 28, 2011 AS PAY (PAW) IT FORWARD DAY &
ENCOURAGES OTHERS AROUND THE WORLD TO GET INVOLVED!
SAN
DIEGO, CA, April 19, 2011… San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders
signed a proclamation designating April 28, 2011 as Pay (Paw) It Forward
Day. By signing the proclamation, Mayor Sanders commends this observance
to all our citizens. Ricochet calls upon animal lovers, surfers, website
administrators, bloggers, Facebook users, Twitter users, media,
businesses, communities, health care professionals, educators, volunteers,
and all people & pets of the world to get involved!
The idea of
Pay (Paw) It Forward Day, is for people
to do one good deed for three others. When recipients ask how they can
re-pay the favor, which can be big or small, they are instructed to
pay/paw It forward to three more people. With each good deed, the cycle
of generosity and kindness will ripple across the world, making us
all better people and pets.
Surf Dog Ricochet,
the SURFice dog who inspires others with her charitable/Paw It Forward
lifestyle, initiated the proclamation signed by Mayor Sanders. She uses
the term "Paw" it Forward to describe what she, and other pets can do to
make a difference.
Pay
(Paw) It Forward Day is a worldwide initiative based on the novel of the
same name written by Catherine Ryan Hyde. The premise of the story is
about a 12 year old boy who did three good deeds for others in need. All
he asked in return, was for them to pass on the good deed to three other
people, and keep the cycle going.
On April
28th, Ricochet will be pawing it forward locally, and encouraging
people/pets around the world to do the same. She recently had wrist bands
made with the message "Paw it Forward", and proceeds are being donated to
charity in the spirit of pawing it forward. Random acts of kindness can be
as simple as holding a door open for someone, or paying for the vehicle
ahead of you in the toll booth lane. Other acts of kindness can be
rescuing an animal in need, helping a senior citizen, or babysitting for a
friend. The list is endless!
Pay
(Paw) It Forward Day is about all people, from all walks of life, giving
to someone else, and making a positive difference. There are over 15
countries involved, hundreds of schools are participating, and thousands
of people will bepaying it forward across the world.
Ricochet
was named an ambassador for Pay It Forward Day by founder, Blake Beattie,
"Ricochet embodies what Pay It Forward Day is all about. She has done
some wonderful good deeds and has made a real difference in the lives of
many. I think we can all learn some powerful lessons from this amazing
dog who has a heart of gold. It is great having Ricochet as an official
ambassador of International Pay It Forward Day as she truly helps inspire
the world - one good deed at a time."
Ricochet
sincerely thank Mayor Sanders for proclaiming April 28, 2011 as Pay It
Forward Day, and she encourages people to visit her website for more
suggestions on how to Pay (Paw) it Forward http://www.surfdogRicochet.com.

SAN DIEGO, CA, March 28, 2010… Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who
lives a lifestyle of helping others by pawing it forward, has
achieved two new milestones yesterday - 20,000 fans on Facebook,
and $75,000 in donations raised for human/animal causes. These
milestones have prompted Ricochet to kick off a new initiative, "Raise Awareness Wednesdays"
which will help spread the word for even more causes through her social
networking platform.
Many
people join Ricochet's
Facebook page after watching her
inspirational video, "From service dog to SURFice dog", (http://bit.ly/9jZ5uV)
that went viral on YouTube with more than 3.2 million views. Others join
after learning that she's the only known dog in the world that surfs
tandem with special needs kids, and people with disabilities for
therapeutic purposes. Ricochet is celebrating this milestone with a new
initiative called "Raise
Awareness Wednesdays"where she will be
raising awareness for additional human/animal causes.
"Raise Awareness Wednesdays"
is for non profit, and charitable organizations that need more awareness
raised for their cause. Each Wednesday, Ricochet will post a link to
her
"Raise Awareness Wednesday"
website page
onto her
Facebook
page, so her 20,000+ fans can learn about the causes, and re-post the
link on their Facebook pages. Through the power of social networking,
this effort should ultimately raise much more awareness. "Raise Awareness Wednesday" will also be posted to her
Twitter page, with the intention of
being re-tweeted, gaining an even larger awareness platform. If you'd
like your organization included, go to
http://www.surfdogricochet.com/Raise%20Awareness%20Wednesday.htm
Reaching these key milestones demonstrates how much Ricochet's worldwide
community supports her efforts. Her supporters have
helped her raise funds... to the tune of $75,000 for charity in the last
17 months! In fact, her current fundraiser for
Reality Rally
which benefits
Michelle's Place,
a resource center for women with breast cancer, was significantly
funded by her Facebook supporters, garnering more than $7500 in
donations.
Ricochet sincerely thanks each and every one of her supporters, and

updates featuring her surfing, day-to-day activities, fundraising

SURF
DOG RICOCHET BLOWS REALITY TV STARS OUT OF THE WATER WITH CHALLENGE
TO RAISE THE MOST MONEY DURING BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISER!
SHE'S
CURRENTLY IN THE LEAD WITH MORE THAN $3300 RAISED!
SAN
DIEGO, CA, February 14, 2011... Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who raised
over $70,000 for charity in the last 15 months, has been challenged to raise
more money than TV reality stars in a breast cancer fundraiser called
"Reality Rally"
"Reality Rally"
is the brainchild of Gillian Larsen, a contestant on the popular reality
show, "Survivor Gabon".
Gillian was voted off during the 2nd show, giving her five weeks in the
jungle to create what has become known as the premier Reality Star
fundraiser.
Reality
Rallyis a three-day weekend event in Temecula, California, April
15-17 intended to raise funds for
Michelle's Place,
a non profit 501(c)3 resource center in Murrieta where women can go for help
in coping with the challenges of breast cancer. Michelle's Place was started
10 years ago to fulfill a 26 year old daughters dying wish... to provide a
haven and support center for those battling breast cancer.
When Ricochet heard there was
fundraising involved, she contacted Gillian, and asked if she could help.
An immediate "alliance" was formed. As Gillian learned of Ricochet's
philanthropic successes, she challenged the 110 participating reality TV
stars from 36 different Reality Shows including Survivor, The Amazing Race,
and Big Brother to raise more money than a dog!! A challenge Ricochet was
very excited to take on while helping women with breast cancer.
Ricochet has raised $3323 in the last several weeks,
leaving the reality stars in her wake! The next highest fundraiser is
Gillian herself at $1035. But, the competitive nature of the other reality
stars kicked in, and social media is burning up with the challenge with
threads asking for support from their family, friends and fans all over the
world. It's turned into Reality versus FUReality!!
There is a “reward” for this challenge too. Anyone raising over $1000 wins a
Hot Air balloon adventure with Grape Escape Hot Air Tours. Ricochet and
Gillian are donating their “reward” to “help someone’s spirits soar” as they
go through the arduous treatment for breast cancer. Women can contact
Michelle’s Place to enter a drawing for the hot air balloon ride. But,
the
real winners will be all the women with breast cancer that benefit from
Michelle's Place... very possibly saving their lives.
SAN DIEGO, CA,
January 31, 2011…
More than $5000 has been raised for Target's Bunker in a fundraiser that
came out of USA Today's Most Heroic dog of 2010. Surf
Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog, and Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog were among
the five nominees, along with Target, the Afghanistan dog who saved many
soldiers lives, only to lose hers to an erroneous euthanization. Ricochet &
Sparkles turned their votes into voices for Target, and began raising funds
and awareness for her.
On
January 7th,
Ricochet and
Sparkles asked their supporters to turn their votes into voices during
USA Today's Most Heroic Dog of 2010. In addition, they started a
fundraiser through Puppy Prodigies/Surf Dog Ricochet, a non profit 501(c)3
organization to help
Target's Bunker, founded by Target's family. Donations came in from all
over the country. Thanks to their generous donors, $5074 has been raised.
Target saved the lives
of many soldiers in Afghanistan when a suicide bomber walked into a Border
Patrol compound. Target, along with two other stray dogs,
attacked the bomber.
Despite the bombing... she survived. SGT Terry Young adopted Target, and
brought her back to live with him in Arizona. One Friday afternoon, Target
got out of the yard, and ended up in a shelter. Tragically, by Monday
morning, she was erroneously euthanized. Target's Bunker has been formed
with the hope of keeping another tragedy like Target's from happening ever
again.
As this month long
fundraiser comes to a close, a check for $5074 will be presented to SGT
Terry Young in the name of Target's Bunker. Ricochet has started a new
fundraiser, "Tidal Wave for Target's Bunker". Since Target's Bunker is in
it's infancy stages of development, donations will continue to be accepted
through Puppy Prodigies/Surf Dog Ricochet. Tax deductible donations can be
made on behalf of Target's Bunker at
http://www.SurfDogRicochet.com/Target.
Ricochet and Sparkles
believe thousands and thousands of dollars can be raised for their hero,
Target, and ask folks around the world to join their quest by making a
donation, and/or help raise awareness by getting the word out about the new
"Tidal Wave for Target's Bunker" fundraiser... which will ultimately save
lives.
NOMINEES OF USA TODAY'S
"MOST HEROIC DOG OF 2010"
TURN THEIR VOTES INTO VOICES FOR FELLOW NOMINEE, TARGET.
TARGET WAS ERRONEOUSLY EUTHANIZED AFTER SAVING
LIVES IN AFGHANISTAN
SAN DIEGO,
CA, January 10, 2011…
USA
Today has narrowed the field down to five dogs in the running for Most
Heroic Dog of 2010. Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog, and Sparkles
the Fire Safety Dog have made the top five, along with Target, the
Afghanistan dog who saved many soldiers lives, only to lose hers to an
erroneous euthanization. Ricochet & Sparkles have turned their votes into
voices for Target, and are now raising funds and awareness for her.
Voting
for the five nominees in
USA Today's Most Heroic Dog of 2010started on Friday,
January 7th.
Ricochet and
Sparkles were honored to be among the five nominees. They began asking
their supporters for votes, but quickly joined together, and turned their
energy toward fellow nominee, Target. They are asking people to turn their
votes for them into voices by helping with their fundraiser for Target's
cause,
Target's Bunker, an organization founded by
Target's family.
On the night of
February 11, 2010, Target saved the lives of many soldiers in Afghanistan
when a suicide bomber walked into a Border Patrol compound. Target, along with two other stray dogs, sensed
something was wrong, and attacked the bomber.
Despite the bombing... she survived. SGT Terry Young adopted Target, and
brought her back to live with him in Arizona. One Friday afternoon, Target
got out of the yard, and ended up in a shelter. Tragically, by Monday
morning, she was erroneously euthanized. "Target's Bunker" has been formed
with the hope of keeping another tragedy like Target's from happening ever
again.
Ricochet and Sparkles
agree... not only is Target USA Today's Most
Heroic Dog of 2010,
but she is THEIR hero! After contacting Target's family, they began
reaching out to their voters, supporters, donors, and the world to help them
raise awareness. Since "Target's Bunker" is still in it's infancy stages of
development, the fundraising campaign is being held through Puppy
Prodigies/Surf Dog Ricochet, a 501(c)3 non profit organization. Tax
deductible donations are being accepted on behalf of "Target's Bunker".
Please visit
http://www.SurfDogRicochet.com/Target for more information, to make a
donation, and to help Ricochet and Sparkles raise awareness of their hero,
Target.
Ricochet and Sparkles
thank USA Today for giving them such an amazing honor, but more importantly
for pointing them in the direction of Target!
SURF DOG RICOCHET WAS SURFING IN A
SEA OF 3409 TOYS AFTER RAISING
MORE THAN $9000 DURING HER KIDS & KRITTERS TOY DRIVE!
$5000 CHRISTMAS WISH GRANTED TO WOMAN WITH DISABILITY
Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who raises funds and
awareness for human and animal causes was surfing in a sea of toys as she
delivered more than 3300 toys to Rady Children's Hospital, and
Helen Woodward Animal Center on Wednesday.
Ricochet had been leading the "Surfin' Santa Paws Toy Drive
for Kids & Kritters" since December 1st. The
$9045, raised in just three
weeks, was used toward the purchase of toys. Donations came in from all
over the world, including Japan,
Canada, Switzerland, France, and the Bahamas
thanks to her donors, and 16,000
Facebook FURiends. The drop boxes provided by her sponsor,
SanDiegoSunCoast.com were overflowing with toys, and pet related
businesses both locally, and across the country donated scores of toys and
treats.
Ricochet
injured her foot a few days before, so she wore a red bandage to match her
Santa suit. Then, a total of 3409 kid & kritter toys were loaded into an 24
foot sleigh (actually... it was a moving truck) courtesy
of San Diego Van & Storage/Mayflower Moving Co.
The first delivery took place at
Rady Children's Hospital, with the help of her first fundraising
beneficiary, quadriplegic surfer,
Patrick Ivison. Donning a red "Surfin' Santa Paws" surfboard, Ricochet
left a tidal wave of toys in her wake. Each year,
thousands of children visit Rady Children's Hospital facilities and these
donations will go a long way towards brightening a child's stay during a
stressful time.
While at Rady Children's Hospital, Ricochet also made a
Christmas wish come true for Tamandra Michaels, a woman who spent much of
her childhood there due to spina bifida. Michaels was in dire need of a new
wheelchair, so Ricochet contacted the
TiLite Wheelchair Company. In the spirit of the Toy Drive,
they very generously donated a $5000 custom made wheelchair. "This is
totally rad", Michaels said as Ricochet revealed her surprise, complete with
a big red bow.
There was one more stop on Santa Paw's route, so she got
back into her sleigh with her 5 lb little elf helper, Spike and headed north
(toward the North Pole) where she delivered toys to
Helen Woodward Animal Center. Helen
Woodward Animal Center is a dynamic, evolving institution that is an agent
of change for the animal welfare world. The toys will offer enrichment to
orphan dogs and cats until their new families adopt them. Toys and treats
were also provided to the birds, rabbits and horses.
Ricochet sincerely thanks SanDiegoSunCoast, San Diego Van & Storage, TiLite
Wheelchairs, her donors, supporters, and Facebook FURiends for helping give
kids & kritters a swell Christmas!
Next up for Ricochet is the
Reality Rally, a three-day weekend event intended to raise funds
for
Michelle's Place, a resource center
where women can go for help in coping with the challenges of breast cancer.
Ricochet is challenging reality stars to raise more money than she can!
SURF
DOG RICOCHET LEADS A "SURFIN' SANTA PAWS TOY DRIVE
FOR KIDS & KRITTERS" TO BENEFIT RADY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL &
HELENWOODWARD
ANIMAL CENTER!
SAN DIEGO, CA, November 29, 2010... Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who wins surf
dog contests, but more notably raised over $55,000 for charity this past
year, is now leading a holiday toy drive to benefit children, and animals in
San Diego. She traded her life jacket for a Santa
jacket, and will be arriving at
Del Mar dog beach via surfboard on December 1st at 10am.
Ricochet
is very excited about this second annual project, as it combines her love of
helping both children and animals. The beneficiaries of her toy drive are
Rady Children's Hospital, and
Helen Woodward Animal Center where she was the top fundraiser at this
past summer's surf dog surf-a-thon. Last year, her toy drive generated
donations from all over the world in connection with her inspirational video
"From Service dog to SURFice dog", that went viral on YouTube. As a
result, over $3550 in donations were raised, and 638 children received toys
for the holidays. She is hoping to raise even more this year!
Each year, thousands of
children visit Rady Children's Hospital facilities and a donation of a toy,
game, or arts and crafts supplies can go a long way towards brightening a
child's stay in the hospital or a visit to a clinic.
Helen Woodward Animal Center is a dynamic, evolving institution that is an
agent of change for the animal welfare world. They use toys for their
animals as a way to offer enrichment while they journey to find their
forever homes.
Donors can choose if they'd like to make a
donation for a kid toy, or a kritter toy... or both!
Ricochet is accepting tax deductible
online donations toward toys through December 17th. She will then go
shopping to purchase toys for the kids and kritters! In addition, local
drop boxes will be provided by her sponsor,
SanDiegoSunCoast.com. Toys can also be mailed to: SanDiegoSunCoast.com,
Surfin' Santa Paws Toy Drive, PO Box
6765, San Diego, CA 92166. Visit Ricochet's website for complete
information on donations, beneficiaries, drop box locations, and more.

About Surf Dog Ricochet, the
SURFice dog
Ricochet is an internationally renowned
champion surf dog who was slated to be a service dog for a person
with a disability, but, due to her interest in chasing prey, she had to be
released from that role. An inspirational video of her journey, "From

SURF DOG RICOCHET SURFS TANDEM WITH SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS AT
BEST DAY FOUNDATION'S "BEST DAY AT THE BEACH" EVENT! DANA
POINT NOVEMBER 13TH & 14TH!
DANA POINT, CA, November 10, 2010...
Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who surfs for fun, wins dog surfing
contests, and most notably surfs tandem with disabled adaptive surfers while
raising funds and awareness for human/animal causes will be at the Best Day
Foundation's "Day at the Beach" event at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point on
November 13th & 14th.
Best Day Foundation, which
helps kids with special needs build confidence and self esteem through safe,
fun-filled adventure activities, will be hosting two half-day events which
include surfing, bodyboarding and kayaking. The "Best Day at the Beach"
event is free for kids with special needs including Autism, Downs Syndrome,
Cerebral Palsy, Blindness, Cancer, Spinal Cord injuries, and other physical
and developmental challenges.
When
Max Montgomery, Best Day Co-Founder and Executive Director heard that
Ricochet surfs tandem with disabled kids, he invited her to participate.
"We're stoked to see Ricochet surf at Doheny
State Beach after watching her all over the internet. The kids are thrilled
to meet Ricochet, and we're grateful to her for helping bring more awareness
to Best Day's first events in Orange County."
Ricochet will be surfing with
Ian McFarland, a six year old boy who suffered a brain injury in a horrific
car accident that claimed the lives of his parents. Ian used to surf with
his father, but was fearful of getting back on a board after the accident.
That all changed when he surfed with Ricochet the first time. His fears
were replaced with excitement, and now Ian says "I want to wipe out with
Ricochet!" See for your self!...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iIv5t2qKL4.
Patrick Ivison, a 16 year old
quadriplegic surfer, the first to ever surf tandem with Ricochet will also
be hitting the waves with her on a tandem surfboard generously provided by
Surftech Surfboards. In addition, Ricochet will surf solo as a
demonstration to further promote confidence building... "if a dog can do it,
so can you!" She will offer encouragement, and help kids who show any
apprehension of getting on a board. She will be busy with meet & greets, and
of course offer lots of cuddling on the beach too!
Trained volunteers are paired
with each kid, and they begin their Best Day with fun exercises before
hitting the water. The safe, fun activities are designed to expand their
potential, create excitement, and connect them with new friends. After an
exciting day at the beach and a warm lunch, each participant is individually
honored for their achievements during an award ceremony.
All the children are gold medal winners at
Best Day's events!
About Ricochet Ricochet was slated to be a service dog for a person with a

PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG RICOCHET RECEIVES 2010 AMERICAL KENNEL CLUB
HUMANE FUND AWARD FOR CANINE EXCELLENCE!
SAN DIEGO, CA,
September 16, 2010…
Two year old, golden retriever Ricochet, the SURFice dog who surfs for fun,
wins contests and most importantly, has been inspiring millions of people
around the world with her paw it forward lifestyle, while raising funds and
awareness for human/animal causes, received the 2010 American Kennel Club
Humane Fund Award for Canine Excellence in the category of Exemplary
Companion Dog.
The American Kennel Club
Ace award is a national honor, given to only five dogs each year who
have performed an exemplary act or series of acts, whether large or
seemingly small, that have significantly benefited a community or
individual. One award is given in the following five categories: Law
Enforcement, Search and Rescue, Therapy, Service, and Exemplary Companion
Dog.
In
addition to the prestige of being chosen from hundreds of entries, each of
the five honorees receives a cash award of $1,000, an engraved sterling
silver collar medallion and an all-expenses-paid trip for dog and owner to
Long Beach, Calif., to be honored at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championships
in December. The engraved names of the five recipients will also be added
to the ACE plaque that is permanently displayed on the AKC Library's "Wall
of Fame" in New York City.
Ricochet was slated to be a service dog for a person with a disability, but
due to her interest in chasing prey, she had to be released from that role.
After proving she could surf by winning 3rd place in the 2009 Purina
Incredible Dog Challenge, her title went from service dog to SURFice dog,
and she began providing assistance to people with disabilities in a
non-traditional manner. She often surfs with disabled surfers from
quadriplegic teenager, Patrick Ivison to a brain injured six year old, Ian
McFarland. She helps counter-balance the board to keep them from falling
off, or motivates them to replace apprehension with excitement.
Shortly after her first fundraiser, a video of her journey titled
"From Service Dog to SURFice Dog" was
posted to YouTube, and un-expectedly went viral. The attention the video
garnered was immediately turned into a platform of helping others on a
larger scale by re-directing the attention to numerous human/animal causes.
The video also served as a source of inspiration to the millions of people
who viewed it, and found their own personal message, bringing them to
tears. Many of those people joined her
Facebook page of 12,500+ incredibly
supportive members.
In
the 10 months that Ricochet's journey has changed course, she's raised
almost $50,000 in donations, and awareness for her causes, which include
people with disabilities, the Association of Amputee Surfers, Wheels 2 Water, Life
Rolls On, Ocean Healing Group, Surfers Healing, Surfers for Autism, Pipeline
to a Cure, Chase Away K9 Cancer, Morris Animal Foundation, Helen Woodward
Animal Center, Pets for Patriots, Pets for Vets, Pay It Forward Day, Living
The Dream Foundation, and more
Ricochet is honored to receive
the American Kennel Club ACE Award, and will continue her commitment
to helping others, while encouraging them to focus on the CAN do's in life,
and realize that disappointment can be turned into a joyful new direction!

PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG RICOCHET & ENDLESS POOLS TEAM UP TO MAKE
$11,000 DREAM COME TRUE FOR BRAIN INJURED 2 YEAR OLD!
Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who has won several surf dog contests,
and more notably inspires people around the world as she raises awareness
and funds for human/animal causes, teamed up with Endless Pools, to make a
brain injured two year olds dream come true! A $11,000 therapy pool will be
delivered to Finnley in the next couple weeks, as part of Ricochet's
fundraiser for her.
Finnley was born with brain damage due to oxygen being cut off to her brain
during delivery. She was only expected to live one to 72 hours. But, 2
years later... she is a living miracle! However, her brain damage caused
cerebral palsy, seizures, and vision impairment. She's not able to walk or
talk, but loves classical music. Her cerebral palsy tightens her muscles,
but when she's in a pool, she's able to move her arms and legs. Her parents
have been saving to purchase a therapeutic swimming pool for their home, so
Finnley can get the daily therapy she needs, but it's very costly... over
$11,000.
When Ricochet heard about
their situation, she started fundraising for Finnley right away. Four weeks
into the fundraiser, Ricochet came up with the idea of calling
Endless Pools to see if they'd be willing to help her make Finnley's
dream come true even sooner.
When Endless Pools heard how
Ricochet lives a lifestyle of helping others by pawing it forward, saw her
SURFice Dog video, and learned more about
Finnley's Story, they immediately wanted to be part of the project.
They "came to the rescue" and offered a significant special needs
discount!! The funds Ricochet raised, coupled with the discount meant the
family only had to come up with $2560, which they had in an account from
previous fundraising they've done.
Finnley's mom, Care was in
tears when she heard the news, and said "The pool is going to allow Finnley
to get the physical therapy she so desperately needs... thank yo so much,
I'm so grateful" And, Finnley herself, although she doesn't talk right now,
broke out into a huge smile! Click this link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPulSq6hMV8 to see it on video!
Ricochet sincerely thanks
Endless Pools, and her donors for
their generosity, and help in making Finnley's dream come true!
Endless Pools, Inc was founded
in 1988 to create a product that allows individuals to experience the
benefits of water exercise and therapy in the comfort and privacy of their
own homes. Their company is dedicated to excellence in design and
manufacturing, as well as courteous and comprehensive customer service.
Endless Pool's goal is to build and deliver an exercise machine that can be
assembled easily, that offers an infinite array of installation design
solutions, and requires minimal maintenance for the pool owner. They
endeavor to build Endless Pools that take up a smaller footprint, use less
water, require fewer chemicals and consume less energy than traditional
pools do.
Ricochet was slated to be a service dog for a person with a disability, but,
due to her interest in chasing prey, she had to be released from that role.
She went from service dog to SURFice dog, and is now raising funds and
awareness for human and animal causes. She has raised over $48,000 in the
last 10 months, and continues to inspire people all over the world with her
positive energy, and charitable lifestyle
SURF DOG RICOCHET RAISES OVER $7500 FOR BRAIN INJURED
SIX YEAR OLD, IAN MCFARLAND, AND MOTIVATES HIM TO SURF AGAIN!
SAN DIEGO, CA, July 13, 2010… Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who lives a
lifestyle of helping others by pawing it forward, has been leading a
fundraising campaign over the last several months for Ian McFarland, a six
year old boy who suffered a brain injury in a horrific car accident that
claimed the lives of his parents. Ricochet's fundraising campaign presented
a unique and exciting double challenge: Help raise funds to offset Ian's
costly rehabilitation, and motivate him to get back on a surfboard/surfing.
In
July, 2008, Ian and his family set out for a road trip to Colorado, but
never made it. A devastating car accident claimed the lives of his parents,
and Ian suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma.
He spent almost four months in the hospital, and although he's made
remarkable progress in his recovery, he still has a long way to go.
Last week, Ricochet presented Ian with a check for more than $7500! These
funds will help pay for Ian's hippo therapy (horseback), physical therapy,
occupational therapy, and aqua therapy.
Most of the funds Ricochet raised were through her inspirational YouTube
video "From Service dog to SURFice dog" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGODurRfVv4).
The video went viral, and has over 2.5 million views, which continues to
increase on a daily basis with donations coming in from all over the world.
The second part of the challenge for Ricochet was to motivate Ian to get
back on a surfboard. Ian and his dad were passionate about surfing. The
ocean has been very healing for Ian, and some of his first steps after the
accident were in the ocean. But, getting back on a surfboard was more
challenging and scary for Ian. Sometimes it would take an hour or two to
work up his confidence.
Ian's Aunt Melissa, who he affectionately refers to as Aunt Happy says
"The night before Ian and Ric were to surf - Ian and I spoke about our
schedule for the next day and what it would entail. Ian was SUPER excited
to see Ricochet and even more excited to surf with her!! The next morning,
Ian woke up boldy demanding, "I want to surf!!!" Any fears that he had were
replaced with excitement!! I seriously cried as he boomed toward the water!
Since the accident, he hasn't ever been that excited to get on the board. I
am so grateful to Ricochet for making that happen as I know the whole
surfing experience and being in the ocean - will continue to aide his
recovery emotionally and physically."
Ricochet's surf sessions with Ian will continue as the two share a special
bond which is illustrated in this inspirational slideshow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-mSXIeVIuE that highlights the healing
power of the ocean, and the healing power of a dog!
Ricochet was slated to be a service dog for a person with a disability, but
had to be released from that role due to her drive to chase birds and other
small animals. She is now assisting people with disabilities in a non
traditional way! She also raises awareness and funds for human/animal
causes, and has raised more than $30,000 in the last eight months.
PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG RICOCHET ACHIEVES NEW MILESTONE - 10,000 FANS ON FACEBOOK...
& RAISES ALMOST $30,000 FOR CHARITY IN THE PROCESS!
SAN DIEGO, CA,
June 28, 2010…
Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who lives a lifestyle of helping others
by pawing it forward, and who recently won 3rd place in the Purina
Incredible Dog Challenge Surf competition, has reached a new milestone -
10,000 fans on Facebook! This fan base has also help raise almost $30,000
in donations for Ricochet's charitable causes!
Ricochet started her Facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/SurfDogRicochet in December of 2009 to help
raise awareness and funds for her charities. Now, just six months later,
she's reached the 10,000 fan mark, which grows every day.
Many people join
Ricochet's Facebook
page after watching her inspirational YouTube video, "From service dog to
SURFice dog",
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGODurRfVv4. They often leave comments
such as "I watched the video and couldn't stop crying! She's so
inspiring, so amazing!",
or "Wow! After my tears dried I couldn't wait to learn more about you and
all that you do. You're one of a kind!"
Although
folks join Ricochet's page as "fans", they quickly become much more than
that. They share a connection... a common bond, which deepens the
relationship to one of mutual support, inspiration and friendship. Her
10,000th fan, Rosemary Catherine is the epitome of this shared connection,
as both she and Ricochet support "Surfers
Healing", an organization that exposes autistic children to the unique
experience of surfing.
Another
fan, Lara Davis who is studying to be a teacher for children with special
needs shared the 10,000th celebration by saying "I
was truly touched (and in tears!) I love the message and the outreach
efforts ricochet puts fourth. I've always thought animals such as Ricochet
could make a big difference in the lives of children".
Reaching this key milestone demonstrates how much Ricochet's worldwide
community supports her efforts. Her supporters have helped her raise awareness and funds... to the tune
of almost $30,000 for both human and animal causes! In fact, two
fundraising campaigns were funded almost entirely by her Facebook
supporters. A canine cancer walk garnered $1820 in donations, and an
arthritis walk raised over $5580 in donations.
Ricochet sincerely thanks each and every
one of her supporters, and looks forward to a continued relationship of
actively engaging them in Facebook conversations, while providing them with
updates featuring her day-to-day activities,
fundraising efforts, causes, events, news, photos, videos, articles, and
FUN! She is currently fundraising for
Helen Woodward Animal Center's orphaned animals, and anticipates another
successful outcome with the help of her amazing supporters!
SURF
DOG RICOCHET TEAMS UP WITH LEASH YOUR FITNESS & I LOVE DOGS TO RAISE AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR ARTHRITIS
WITH AN ARTHRITIS WALK & PHOTO CONTEST!
SAN DIEGO, CA,
May 13, 2010…
Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who surfs for fun, competition, and
charitable causes, is teaming up with Leash Your Fitness,
andI Love Dogs, to raise awareness of
arthritis in both humans and canines.
One in five adults, and over
300,000 children suffer with arthritis pain every day. Arthritis is one of
the most common health problems a dog will face. In fact, at least one in
five dogs will develop the debilitating disease. Arthritis is the most
common disability in the nation.
This
campaign hits close to home for Ricochet, as her guardian and handler, Judy
Fridono has been suffering from debilitating arthritis since she was a
teenager. "Ricochet has taught me to focus on what I CAN do, rather than
what I can't" says Judy. Although she is in constant pain, and horrible
fatigue, Judy is committed to helping Ricochet on her journey of raising
funds and awareness for charitable causes. When Leash Your Fitness
mentioned they were involved in the "Let's Move Together Arthritis Walk",
Ricochet immediately joined their team. For more info on how arthritis
affects Ricochet and Judy, go to
http://www.surfdogricochet.com/Arthritis%20Campaign.htm
The Eighth Annual "Let's Move
Together" Arthritis Walk will take place at the NTC Promenade at Liberty
Station on
Saturday, June 5, 2010. The goal for the 2010 Walk is to raise
$250,000 for the prevention, treatment, and research to find a cure for
arthritis.
Leash Your Fitness, the only workout class in San Diego where your dog is
your workout partner is co-sponsoring the "Leash Your Fitness with Kima"
2010 Arthritis Walk team. In exchange for each team member raising a
minimum of $150.00 for the Arthritis Foundation, the participant receives
six weeks of FREE training, three FREE Leash Your Fitness classes and a FREE
Leash Your Fitness t-shirt to wear in the walk. The team meets weekly at
various parks throughout San Diego for one-hour "walk the circuit" classes,
which incorporate upper body strength and core exercises, balance, yoga and
dog obedience. The team training is designed to build endurance for the
three-mile walk, all while preparing your dog to walk in a group setting.

I Love Dogs has long been supportive of
Ricochet’s amazing charitable work and donations, and when they heard about
her new arthritis campaign, they wanted to get involved. They are excited
to announce that they’re co-hosting a photo contest with Ricochet, and
because I Love Dogs dreams of a world without the pain of arthritis, the
contest is focusing on health, exercise and fun! In honor of Ricochet’s
talent as a surfer, the contest is beach and surf themed. Pet parents are
asked to dress up their dogs in their coolest beach or surf outfits or
accessories. The winner gets a big gift basket with all sorts of goodies
such as a 60-day supply of Glucosamine & Chondroitin with Green Tea, a
Frisbee, a leash and some Body Glove water toys. For all the details of the
contest, go to
http://www.ilovedogs.com/2010/05/surf-dog-ricochet-and-i-love-dogs-team-up-for-a-contest/
Ricochet, Leash Your Fitness, and I Love Dogs invite you to join them in
their quest to raise awareness of arthritis, by joining their team for the
walk, entering the photo contest, or making a donation. Ricochet dreams of
a day when her guardian, and all those suffering with arthritis, both human
and canine can live their life without pain.
SAN DIEGO MAYOR, JERRY SANDERS PROCLAIMS APRIL 29, 2010
"PAW (PAY) IT FORWARD DAY", AND AMBASSADOR SURF DOG RICOCHET
ENCOURAGES THE COMMUNITY TO GET INVOLVED
SAN DIEGO, CA,
April 20, 2010…
Mayor Jerry Sanders signed a proclamation designating April 29, 2010 as Pay It Forward Day. By signing
the proclamation, Mayor Sanders commends this observance to all our
citizens, and calls upon Government officials, businesses, communities,
health care professionals, educators, volunteers, and all the people of
the county
of San Diego to get involved.
Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who surfs for fun,
competition and charitable causes, while inspiring others with her
charitable/Pay It Forward lifestyle, initiated the proclamation signed by
Mayor Sanders. Ricochet will be at the
Old Town Transit Center, 4009 Taylor St in
San Diego at
8:00 a.m. on April 29th, encouraging people in
San Diego county, as well as around the globe to
perform random acts of kindness on Pay It Forward Day. She will also be
"pawing" it forward by giving out dog biscuits to doggie commuters near
the
Transit Center.
Ricochet's
surf coach, Robbie Nelson from
Happy Barrels Surf School, will be accompanying her at the Old Town
Transit Center where he will be giving out coupons for a free surf clinic,
and then asking recipients to pay it forward with their own random act of
kindness to someone else.
Two of Ricochet's fundraising beneficiaries, Patrick Ivison, the
quadriplegic boy she raised over $10,000 for, and Ian McFarland, the six
year old brain injured boy she raised over $6170 for, will be joining her
in the afternoon as they deliver dog biscuits to area shelters.
Pay It Forward Day is a worldwide initiative based on the novel of the
same name written by Catherine Ryan Hyde. The premise of the story is
about a 12 year old boy who did three good deeds for others in need. All
he asked in return, was for them to pass on the good deed to three other
people, and keep the cycle going.
The idea of Pay It Forward Day, is for people to do one good deed for
three others. When recipients ask how they can re-pay the favor, which can
be big or small, they should be instructed topay It forward to
three more people. With each good deed, the cycle of generosity and
kindness will ripple across the world, making us all better people.
Pay It Forward Day is about all people, from all walks of life, giving to
someone else, and making a positive difference. There are over 15
countries involved, hundreds of schools are participating, and thousands
of people will bepaying it forward across the world.
Ricochet was named an ambassador for Pay It Forward Day by founder, Blake
Beattie, who says "Ricochet embodies what Pay It Forward Day is all
about. She has done some wonderful good deeds and has made a real
difference in the lives of many. I think we can all learn some powerful
lessons from this amazing dog who has a heart of gold. It is great having
Ricochet as an official ambassador of International Pay It Forward Day as
she truly helps inspire the world - one good deed at a time."
Ricochet sincerely thanks Mayor Sanders for proclaiming April 29, 2010 as
Pay It Forward Day, and she encourages all San Diego residents, as well as
people from across the world to get involved! For more information on
Paying It Forward, or to get involved in San Diego go to

SURF DOG RICOCHET BECOMES AN AMBASSADOR FOR "PAY IT FORWARD DAY",
AND INSPIRES PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD TO PERFORM GOOD DEEDS, OR
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS FOR OTHERS
SAN DIEGO, CA,
March 22, 2010…
Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who surfs for fun, competition, and
charitable causes, was named an ambassador for Pay It Forward Day,
which will be held around the world on April 29, 2010. Ricochet is inspiring people around the
globe to perform random acts of kindness on Pay It Forward Day.
She'll also be coordinating localgood deedactivities for
members of the
San Diego community.
When the organizers
of Pay It Forward Day heard about the life changing work Ricochet
does through her Surfin' for Paws-abilities program, they thought she'd be
the perfect candidate to fill the roll of Ambassador. Pay It Forward Day
is a worldwide initiative based on the novel of the same name written by
Catherine Ryan Hyde. The premise of story is about a 12 year old boy who
did three good deeds for others in need. All he asked in return, was for
them to pass on the good deed to three other people, and keep the cycle
going.
So, on Pay It Forward Day, people will do one good deed for three
others. When recipients ask how they can re-pay the favor, which can be big
or small, they'll be instructed to pay it forward to three more
people. With each good deed, the cycle of generosity and kindness will
ripple across the world, making us all better people.
Pay It Forward Day
is about all people, from all walks of life, giving to someone else, and
making a positive difference. There are over 15 countries involved,
hundreds of schools are participating, and thousands of people will be
paying it forward across the world. There is an exclusive Facebook page
www.bit.ly/payitforwardday,
set up for people to join in preparation for the event. Additional
information can be found on the Pay It Forward Day website
http://payitforwardday.com.
One of the activities Ricochet is working on for Pay It Forward Day is an
surf session hosted by Happy Barrels Surf School, and their Adaptive Surfing
Foundation. Owner, Robbie Nelson is Ricochet's surf coach, and she will be
paying forward the acts of kindness she's receives from him. Patrick Ivison,
the quadriplegic boy Ricochet raised over $10,000 for, and Ian McFarland,
the six year old brain injured boy she raised over $6000 for, will be out
there paying it forward with her.
An excellent example of how powerful paying it forward can be, is
Ricochet's YouTube video "From Service dog to SURFice dog". Each person who
watched it was inspired, and wanted to share the inspiration with someone
else... so they paid the link forward to others. The cycle continued and
the video went viral, touching millions of lives around the world. Ricochet
has posted a new video, specifically about paying it forward, and is
now inspiring people to get involved on Pay It Forward Day! To watch

SURF DOG RICOCHET WALKS THE RED CARPET IN HOLLYWOOD TO
ACCEPT A DOGSWELL "WAG" AWARD & DONATES A YEARS SUPPLY OF DOG FOOD
TO THE HELEN WOODWARD ANIMAL CENTER
SAN
DIEGO, CA, February 17, 2010… Ricochet, (”Rip Curl
Ricki,”) the Surfin’ for Paws-abilities SURFice dog, who raised almost
$20,000 for charitable causes in the last six months, and more notably has
been inspiring millions of people with her
YouTube video, will be accepting a
Dogswell "Wag" award on February 18th at the LeDeux Hotel in Hollywood,
California. One of the prizes is a years supply of Dogswell dog food that
Ricochet is donating to the AniMeals program at the
Helen Woodward Animal Center.
It's
that time of year when celebrities hit the red carpet at the Oscars, Golden
Globes and SAG Awards, so Dogswell, a natural pet food company is
celebrating California's top dogs with "Wag" awards. The charity event will
honor five top dogs who are heroic, funny, talented, and inspirational with
a big night on the red carpet. Ricochet won the award for "most charitable
story".
The
event will be held at Les Deux in Hollywood, 1638 N. Las Palmas Av. Tickets
can be purchased online at
http://www.dogswell.com/RSVP, and includes complimentary cocktails and
hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, and awards presentation.
Ricochet
began fundraising and creating awareness for charitable causes in August of
2009. Her first fundraiser was for 15 year old quadriplegic surfer, Patrick
Ivison. She raised over $10,000 for Patrick, and her sponsor, the Rose
Foundation awarded a grant to cover three years of his physical therapy.
Afterwards a video was posted to YouTube which showcased her inspirational
journey
"From service dog to SURFice dog".
The video went viral, and has almost 2 million views, which increases
daily. The video has touched people all over the world with folks tweeting,
Facebooking, blogging, and emailing with "kleenex alert" warnings.
The
video has also generated more than $8570 in donations (so far) from all over
the world including Canada, The UK, Taiwan, Japan, The Netherlands, and New
Zealand. $3550 was for Ricochet's Surfin' Santa Paws toy drive which helped
purchase toys for over 638 children in hospitals, and domestic violence
shelters. The remainder of the funds is going toward her newest cause, six
year old Ian McFarland who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a horrific
car accident that claimed the lives of his parents.
When Ricochet heard one
of the prizes that goes along with the "Wag" award is a years supply of
Dogswell dog food, she immediately thought of her friends at the Helen
Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Ricochet
supports HWAC throughout the year by attending several of their fundraising
events, including the surf dog surf-a-thon (she won 2nd place overall at
their 2009 event). But, for Ricochet the biggest prize is when she can help
raise funds or increase awareness for a charitable cause. So, in the spirit
of the "Wag" award, Ricochet wants to make Helen Woodward a bigger part of
her "charitable story" and is kicking it off by donating her years supply of
dog food for their AniMeals program.
Helen
Woodward Animal Center is a unique, private, non profit organization
dedicated to saving the lives of animals and enriching the lives of people.
For more than 37 years, the no-kill Center has provided humane care and
adoption for orphaned animals, as well as animal-centered educational and
therapeutic programs for people.
The
AniMeals program offers free pet food for the dogs and cats of elderly or
disabled people throughout San Diego County. AniMeals helps keep people and
their companion pets together by removing logistical and financial obstacles
to ensure that clients will always be able to provide nutritious meals for
their beloved pets. The program, which works in cooperation with
Meals-on-Wheels, and other organizations, began in 1984 and is one of only
several like it in the United States. The AniMeals program currently feeds
approximately 235 pets per week.
Ricochet
is thrilled to donate her one year supply of Dogswell dog food prize to such
a wonderful organization as Helen Woodward. She also
sincerely thanks Dogswell for the honoring her with a "Wag" award.
See you on the red carpet!

PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG RICOCHET CATCHES A NEW WAVE, AS SHE HELPS 6 YEAR OLD SURFER,
IAN MCFARLAND, WHO SUFFERED A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY IN A HORRIFIC CAR
ACCIDENT THAT CLAIMED THE LIVES OF HIS PARENTS.
SAN DIEGO, CA, January 11, 2010... Ricochet, ("Rip Curl Ricki,") the Surfin' for
Paws-abilities SURFice dog who raised over $10,000 for quadriplegic surfer,
Patrick Ivison, and most recently raised over $3500 in a toy drive, is catching
a new wave with Ian McFarland. Ricochet's current project presents a
unique and exciting triple challenge: Help get Ian back on a surfboard/surfing,
help motivate him through his rehabilitation, and raise funds to offset the
expense of his costly medical bills.
In
July, 2008, Ian and his family set out for a road trip to Colorado, but never
made it. A devastating car accident claimed the lives of his parents, and
Ian suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma. Ian
spent almost four months in the hospital, and although discharged, still had a
feeding tube, could barely speak, and was in a wheelchair. Over the course
of 18 months, Ian has made remarkable progress in his recovery, but still has a
long way to go.
Unfortunately, his
rehabilitation therapies are very costly, and that's where Ricochet's
fundraising comes in. In the last three weeks, she has raised over $3050
for Ian through her inspirational YouTube video "From Service Dog to SURFice
Dog" (click here to watch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGODurRfVv4). The video went viral, and has
over 1.2 million views, which continues to increase on a daily basis with
donations coming in from all over the world.
Ian used to surf with
his daddy, and it's his hope to surf again. "The ocean if very therapeutic
for Ian", says his Aunt Melissa, "It was in the water where Ian took his first
steps after the accident, and it would be wonderful if Ricochet could help
motivate him to do even more, and get back on a board..., Ian loves dogs."
Ricochet recently met
Ian, and although it was too cold for the beach, the pair didn't let that stop
them from hanging out on a surfboard! Sessions with Ian will continue
through the winter, and since Ricochet is a certified goal directed therapy dog
through Pawsitive Teams, she will use her skills to help motivate Ian in his
rehabilitation. As the weather gets warmer, therapy will continue on the
beach... in the ocean... on a surfboard!
Ricochet was slated to
be a service dog for a person with a disability through the Puppy Prodigies
program, but had to be released from the role due to her drive to chase birds,
which could be risky for a person with a disability. Rather than focus on
what she couldn't do, the emphasis was placed on what she COULD do, and the
Surfin' for Paws-abilities initiative was carved out for her.

A MILLION VIEWS AS IT INSPIRES PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD,
AND RAISES THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN CHARITABLE DONATIONS!
SAN DIEGO,
CA, January 3, 2010… Surf Dog Ricochet, (”Rip Curl Ricki,”) the Surfin’ for
Paws-abilities surf dog, who raises awareness and funds for charitable causes
is now reaching people from all over the world through her inspirational
YouTube video, "From service dog to SURFice Dog". Views have been increasing
by the tens of thousands daily with scores of donations being made toward her
charitable causes. Folks have been tweeting, Facebooking, blogging, and
emailing with "kleenex alert" warnings! This inspirational video has spurred
emotion on many different levels, and each person who watches seems to find
their own personal message, moving them to tears.
Although the video is about a
dog, and her trainer, there are several life lessons which can be applied to
anyone, and anything. People from all walks of life are being inspired by the
message of adjusting expectations, and focusing on ability which allows for a
celebration of amazing outcomes!
One of the
lessons in the video is learning to allow ourselves and others to be who they
truly are... without judgment or intention to change. As one viewer put it
"If things with your self or your kids aren't going exactly as you'd like,
step back, let yourselves be who you really are, and watch the magic!"
Another viewer comments, "Watch this inspirational video and make a vow to
just ALLOW."
The video
tells of Ricochet's inspiring journey from puppy prodigy, to service dog
training, to realizing she wasn't entirely suited for the job due to an
interest in chasing birds, to disappointment, to finding a new direction, to
focusing on her natural calling which manifested into something even more
wonderful than could have ever been imagined!!
The video
has also generated more than $5800 in donations (so far) from all over the
world including Taiwan, Japan, The Netherlands, and New Zealand. $3550 was
for her Surfin' Santa Paws toy drive which helped purchase toys for over 638
children in hospitals, and domestic violence shelters. The remainder of the
funds, which continues to increase daily is going toward her newest cause, six
year old Ian McFarland who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a horrific car
accident that claimed the lives of his parents.
As one
viewer suggests, "Anyone who doesn't invest the time just missed five minutes
of pure joy. Five minutes that will never come again. Invest the time. You
never know what joy awaits."
SURFICE DOG VIDEO HELPS SURF DOG RICOCHET RAISE OVER $3550 IN TOY DONATIONS FOR
638 CHILDREN OF HURLEY'S LIVING THE DREAM FOUNDATION/CHOC CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL,
RADY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL & TWO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS
SAN DIEGO,
CA, December 28, 2009… Ricochet, (”Rip Curl Ricki,”) the Surfin’ for
Paws-abilities surf dog, who's been leading a Surfin' Santa Paws toy drive this
December, raised over $3550 in toy donations. As a result, 638 children in San
Diego and Orange counties will receive a toy this Christmas. She will be decked
out in her Santa suit, delivering toys to CHOC Children's Hospital on Monday,
December 21st, and to Rady Children's Hospital on Tuesday, December 22nd. Toys
are also going to two domestic violence shelters in San Diego.
Due
to the H1N1 virus, hospitals are only allowing parents to visit their children,
which means the kids aren't able to spend Christmas with their families.
Ricochet thought this was very sad, so she contacted Hurley's Living the Dream
Foundation, and together they decided to donate toys to CHOC Children's
Hospital. She also got in touch with Rady Children's Hospital, and two domestic
violence shelters who also need toys for their kids. Once she had her
beneficiaries in place, the fundraising began, and donations started coming in.
Donations
are due in large part to her inspirational YouTube video "From Service Dog to
SURFice Dog",
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGODurRfVv4, that went viral, and is closing
in on a million views. Cash donations came in from all over the world,
including Taiwan, Japan, and New Zealand. These cash donations, coupled with
toy donations are making it possible for 638 children to receive a toy this
Christmas! Ricochet sincerely thanks all her donors, and supporters for making
this toy drive successful, and helping put smiles on children's faces this
Christmas.

A HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE TO BENEFIT HURLEY’S LIVING THE DREAM FOUNDATION,
CHOC CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL & RADY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
SAN DIEGO,
CA, November 24, 2009... Ricochet, ("Rip Curl Ricki,") the Surfin' for

WebMD Health Foundation for quadriplegic surfer Patrick Ivison's physical
therapy, is now leading a holiday toy drive to benefit children in San Diego and
Orange counties.
Although
dog surfing has pretty much come to a close for the season, Ricochet decided to
trade her life jacket for a santa jacket, and transformed herself into a Surfin'
Santa Paws! Ricochet is very excited about this new project, as she adores
children, and is eager to make a difference to those hospitalized this holiday
season. The beneficiaries of the toy drive are Rady Children's Hospital in
San Diego, and Hurley's Living The Dream Foundation, which together with
Ricochet will distribute the toys to CHOC Children's Hospital.

PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG RICOCHET WINS BIG AS SHE RAISES OVER $10,000
FOR
QUADRIPLEGIC SURFER, PATRICK IVISON, AND 3 YEARS OF HIS THERAPY
IS FUNDED BY HER SPONSOR, WEB MD HEALTH FOUNDATION!
SAN DIEGO, CA, November 17, 2009... Ricochet,
("Rip Curl Ricki,") the Surfin' for Paws-abilities surf dog, who has been
leading a fundraising campaign over the last three months for Patrick Ivison, a
15 year old quadriplegic adaptive surfer, has raised more than $10,000 for his
medical expenses! In addition, with the help of a grant from the WebMD
Health Foundation, three years of his physical therapy will be funded!
Ricochet was
winning surf dog contests over the last few months as she fundraised for
Patrick, but raising over $10,000, along with the WebMD Health Foundation grant,
is her biggest “prize” of all. Ricochet worked hard to create awareness for
Patrick in his quest to continue his physical therapy which insurance doesn’t
cover.
When WebMD Health
Foundation caught wind of the story, they wanted to support Ricochet’s efforts,
and offered her a sponsorship. They were also thrilled to help Patrick reach
his goal of walking across the stage at his high school graduation, and are
awarding a grant to the non profit organization that manages Patrick’s medical
expenses. This commitment, and very generous grant from WebMD Health Foundation
will pay for over three years of Patrick’s physical therapy!
Patrick and
Ricochet started this journey together in August, when they performed their
first tandem surf session between an adaptive surfer and a dog as part of the
fundraising activities. The pair will continue their tandem surfing
demonstrations, but will focus on paying it forward by helping others in need.
Ricochet has
several other projects in the pipeline too, which include volunteering with
Life Rolls On, and their award winning program, “They will Surf
Again”. She will also be working with
Happy Barrels Surf School and
Wheels 2 Water to help raise awareness of surfers with
disabilities. When Ricochet isn’t in the water, she’ll be working with children
through
Pawsitive Teams goal assisted therapy
program. She is also looking at additional opportunities where she can educate,
create awareness, and inspire people to realize anything is possible!
Ricochet was
slated to be a service dog for people with disabilities, but had to be released
from that role due to her strong drive to chase birds, which could be dangerous
to a person with a disability. Rather than focus on what she couldn’t do, the
emphasis was placed on what she COULD do, and the Surfin’ for Paws-abilities
program was carved out for her. To see a video of Ricochet’s journey from

PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG RICOCHET RAISES OVER $8200 FOR QUADRIPLEGIC SURFER,
PATRICK IVISON, AND TAKES SECOND PLACE AT THE SURF CITY SURF DOG EVENT!
SAN DIEGO, CA, October 13, 2009... Ricochet, ("Rip Curl Ricki,") the Surfin'
for Paws-abilities surf dog who is fundraising for Patrick Ivison, a 15 year
old quadriplegic adaptive surfer exceeded her fundraising goals, and won 2nd
place in the large dog category at the Surf City Surf Dog event held October
11th in Huntington Beach.
Ricochet
has been leading a fundraising campaign for Patrick for the last several
months. As part of these efforts, she and Patrick performed a tandem surf
demonstration at the Surf City Surf Dog event last Sunday with the goal of
raising funds, as hundreds of onlookers enjoyed the tandem pair.
Ricochet’s
fundraising goals were twofold: Raise enough money to cover the $2000 cost
of Patrick’s new service dog, Kona from Pawsitive Teams, a local service dog
organization. And, raise at least $5000 for Patrick’s intense physical
therapy at Project Walk.
The WebMD
Health Foundation, who is thrilled to help Patrick reach his goals, made a
kick off donation of $3600, which helped Ricochet raise a total of $8200+,
exceeding her goals! Donations are still coming in, and being accepted, so
the totals will be updated in the next several weeks. If you’d like to make
a donation go to www.surfdogricochet.com.
Ricochet sincerely thanks The WebMD Health Foundation for their generous
support and commitment. She also appreciates every single individual, and
organization that supported her in this fundraising campaign through their
selfless help and donations.
Despite
injuring her paw two days before the event, Ricochet was determined to do
her job for Patrick, and competed in the large dog category of the surf dog
competition, where she placed first. She achieved the highest score of all
dogs in all categories during the preliminary heats, notwithstanding her
injury. Ricochet then went on to the finals where she won 2nd
place in the large dog category, and Patrick happily accepted her prize.
But, Ricochet says “The best prize was raising more than $8200 for Patrick,
and doing our tandem rides, which puts a huge smile on Patrick’s face!”
Patrick
suffered a C4/5 spinal cord injury as a result of an un-insured driver
backing a car over him, when he was a child. Patrick was diagnosed
quadriplegic, and has used a wheelchair ever since, but uses an adaptive
board to surf.
Ricochet
was slated to be a service dog for people with disabilities, but had to be
released from that role due to her strong drive to chase birds and other
small animals, which could be dangerous to a person with a disability. She
went from service dog to SURFice dog, and is now fundraising for charitable
causes like spinal cord injured Patrick Ivison.
PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG RICOCHET WINS 2ND
PLACE OVERALL
AT THE 4th ANNUAL HELEN WOODWARD SURF DOG SURF-A-THON
DEL MAR,
CA: September 14, 2009: Ricochet ("Rip Curl Ricki"), the Surfin' for
Paws-abilities surf dog took second place overall at the 4th annual
Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-a-thon held in Del Mar, California on September 13,
2009. The event raises money for homeless animals at the HelenWoodwardAnimal
Center. Ricochet accomplished this feat with the assistance of surfers Brad
Savall, and Robbie Nelson. Also helping in the water were her team members from
both the San Diego Dog Surfing Association (SDDSA), and the Golden SurFURS.
There
were about 100 dogs competing in the contest, including small, medium, large,
and extra large categories. Two heats of each category surfed it out in a
battle to get the top spot in their heat which took them to the finals.
Ricochet came in 1st place in the large dog category second heat,
which qualified her, along with seven other dogs, including her SDDSA teammates
Callie, Dozer, Kalani, and Nani.
The
final competition was fast and furious as the dogs and handlers rushed to get in
as many waves as they could in a 20 minute time frame. Dogs were scored on the
length of the ride, size of the wave, and other tricks on the board, such as
turning around or riding backwards. Ricochet and Buddy, a Jack Russell terrier
from Newport Beach
rode one of the last waves of the heat with their boards pretty much touching
the whole way… it was looking like a race to the finish! But, Buddy, who's been
surfing for many years, and is the reigning champ prevailed and took first
place, with Ricochet in second, and Dozer, a SDDSA bulldog from San Diego
taking third.
Ricochet
is an up and coming dog surfer, at the age of 1½ years. Although she began her
surfing lessons on a boogie board in a kiddie pool when she was 8 weeks old by
trainer/owner Judy Fridono, she has only ventured into larger waves of the ocean
this past June. A couple weeks later she was invited to the Purina Incredible
Dog Challenge Surf Dog Competition where she won 3rd place in the
large dog category. Most recently, Ricochet completed the first known tandem
surf session with 15 year old, Patrick Ivison, a quadriplegic adaptive surfer.
Next up
for Ricochet is the Surf City Surf Dog Contest in Huntington Beach on October 11th
where she’ll be competing in the large dog category, as well as doing a tandem
surf demonstration with Patrick. Ricochet teamed up with the Surf City Surf Dog
organizers, and Patrick is now an official beneficiary of the event. She
is leading the fundraising campaign for Patrick through her "Surfin' for
Paws-abilities" program which will help fund his physical
therapy/rehabilitation, and new service dog. See you at the Surf City Surf
Dog!
PRESS RELEASE
SURF DOG CONTEST WINNER CARVES NEW WAVES AS SHE TANDEM SURFS WITH
15-YEAR-OLD SPINAL CORD INJURED ADAPTIVE SURFER
AND FUNDRAISES FOR HIM TOO!
SAN DIEGO,
CA, August 19, 2009…”Rip Curl Ricki,” a local golden retriever surf contest
winner, will be taking to the waves next Thursday, August 20, to learn a new
skill: surfing tandem with Patrick Ivison, a 15-year-old spinal cord injured
adaptive surfer. “Ricochet” (as she is known on land) has been surfing since
she was a puppy, and has always been part of surfing fundraising efforts for
great causes. The newest project for Ricochet, however, presents a unique and
exciting challenge: training to surf tandem with Patrick Ivison, who suffered a
spinal cord injury as a result of an accident when he was only 14 months old.
Patrick was diagnosed quadriplegic, but he is able to surf using an adaptive
surfboard.
In addition to accomplishing a tandem surf ride with
a person with limited physical abilities (rarely, if ever done), Ricochet will
use her surf training next week to prepare for upcoming surf competitions and
fundraisers for Patrick.
Although
Patrick has excelled through the years in both school and adaptive sports
(adaptive surfing is his specialty), he recently decided that having a service
dog would help
him achieve greater independence as he approaches his college years.
Paws’itive Teams, a local non-profit organization that places service dogs
with persons with disabilities, caught wind of Patrick’s story and matched him
with a golden retriever named Kona.
Patrick also
participates in an intense physical therapy program funded through Help
Patrick Walk, which helps him build strength by exercising parts of his body
he can’t move or control on his own. Since starting his therapy, Patrick has
been able to do things he never thought he could.
The costs of
training a service dog, and specialized physical therapy are steep, however –
that’s where Ricochet’s knack for surfing and fundraising comes in.
Ricochet
will be carving waves in San Diego for the next several weeks to prepare for the
Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-a-thon in Del Mar on September 13, 2009 as well as
the Surf City Surf Dog event in Huntington Beach on October 11, where she hopes
to share a wave with Patrick.
Patrick is
an official beneficiary for the Surf City Surf Dog contest, and the proceeds
donated to Ricochet through her fundraising efforts for that contest will go
directly to Paws’itive Teams, and Help Patrick Walk, for the sole purpose of
easing the financial burden on Patrick and his family.
