I met my new FURiend Jessica Joy Rees on her Facebook page.  She is a beautiful 12 year old girl.  She has three dogs, is in 6th grade, and in a few months, she'll be going to Jr. High School. She likes to train with her swim team, go shopping, and the Reality TV shows, Survivor, American Idol, and Project Runway.

Sadly, on March 3, 2011 an MRI revealed she has a in-operable brain tumor. After many appointments, research and prayer, Jessica and her parents chose a year of treatment at Children's Hospital Orange County (CHOC).  She's begun radiation treatment, and her next MRI was on May 25th… unfortunately, the tumor is still there, but it hasn't grown.  Pray with us that it disappears!

When Jessica found out she had a brain tumor, she realized there are a lot of people who wanted to help her. But, she also realized there are a lot of people who NEED help.  She was thinking of others despite her own challenges.  I was immediately connected to her spirit of wanting to help others... because it kind of parallels my initiative of Pawing It Forward, so I created this fundraiser "Pawing It Forward to Help Jessie Spread Joy".

Jessica and her family formed a non profit organization called The NEGU Foundation, which stands for Never Ever Give Up... Jessica's motto!  Jessica has inspired thousands of people to NEGU! The Foundation will deliver Hope and Joy to children who have received a diagnosis similar to Jessica’s, and help fund cancer research.

To fund their non profit, Jessica came up with the idea of Joy Jars! A new way to help spread Joy to children who are hospitalized or fighting serious medical conditions!  Her Joy Jars will also be available to anyone who wants to spread joy to others such as their family, friends, and neighbors.

Obviously there is overhead to making them, and that's where my fundraiser came in.

My "Paw It Forward to Help Jessie Spread Joy" fundraiser was to help fund the overhead of making the jars & jar inventory.  Joy Jars will help fund The NEGU Foundation.

Thank you to my donors for helping me with this fundraiser... $1110 was raised!!

To read more about Jessica, please go to her website http://www.jessicajoyrees.com/.  If you'd like to order a Joy Jar go to http://www.joyjars.org/jj/ Each jar can be customized and filled with just about any content. For all you dog lovers out there, they can even be filled with dog treats, toys or bones.  You can buy a jar already made, or just buy the jar & have fun filling it with your creative ideas.  Every jar you buy allows The NEGU Foundation to give out more hope and joy to other kids fighting their own medical battles.
