PAW IT FORWARD

VIDEO GAME & DVD MOVIE DRIVE

In honor of Trinity to benefit kids with autism through The A.skate Foundation

I was contacted by a company called MPS & Associates/Digital Donations that re-sells old video games & movies on DVD. That told me about a fundraising opportunity. This was something new to me, but I decided to give it a go!  This was a fundraiser where people didn't have to outlay any cash, but they still get a tax write off!  My beneficiary is The A.skate Foundation, is an organization that allows children with autism to be a part of our social world through skateboarding.  Scroll down, or click here to learn more about them! I haven't done much skateboarding, but it's not that different from surfing, is it?!! Maybe I'll get to skateboard with the kids one day.

My FURiend Paul Lopez donated a big bunch of items (see picture at left) in memory of his dog, Trinity. Sadly, she very unexpectedly went to Rainbow Bridge on Easter Sunday. So, I decided to make this fundraiser in her honor! We all love you, Trinity!!

Check out how this fundraiser works below...

VIDEO GAME & DVD MOVIE DRIVE TO BENEFIT KIDS WITH AUTISM THROUGH A.SKATE

This is how it workedDonors sent me any DVD or Video Game they didn't use or play any more as a donation.  They could donate any DVD, Wii, DS, PS2, PS3 PSP, Xbox or Xbox 360 game that they have already played, don’t play anymore, or don’t want.  All games needed to be in useable condition.

After I collected them all, I sent them to MPS & Associates, who was supposed to sell them to retailers that sell used games and movies.  Since they sell in bulk, they get more than an average person who walks into a game store with a few games.  They were supposed to give me 70% of the value of the games I collected.  The average dollar amount returned back to participating programs has been about $2500 on an estimated 400 products collected.  We collected over 700!! Unfortunately, MPS & Associates has not paid us for the games, and we are working with the Attorney General's office to get this resolved.

The A.skate Foundation

The A.skate Foundation is a (pending) 501(c)3 non profit that allows children with autism to be a part of our social world through skateboarding.  We hold clinics for children with autism at no cost to the families, give grants to children with autism for skateboard gear, as well as promote awareness and educate families about the skateboard industry.

Autism, like skateboarding, can be unpredictable and often times unruly. We embrace the parts of autism that are hard to understand and give these kids an outlet that is free of rules or judgment, and allows them to be social without being “social”.  For more information on The A.skate Foundation, visit their website http://www.askate.org, and click the links below.
