AND RINA TOO!
My sister, Rina (from a different mother) is a golden/lab mix. SHE LOVES SHOES! She's mom's service dog. And, she is the wind beneath my wings! She's wise, happy, accommodating, and always has a pawesome smile! She's mostly in the background, supporting me, and my work. If I have a fundraiser, she usually donates! If I have to take mom to an event, she understands that I'm working, and never complains that she isn't able to go. Not only is Rina a service dog, but she is a goal directed therapy dog with Pawsitive Teams. She's also a registered therapy dog with Therapy Dogs Incorporated. She enjoys hiking on trails, rolling in smelly stuff, and stealing mom's shoes, and the remote control! She often wins pet costume contests because she's so tolerant of elaborate costumes! She's 8 years old, and tried surfing once. She says she'll leave that to me. But, if she comes to my practices, she cries at the shore... .she doesn't really like when I surf. I'm not sure why, maybe she thinks I'm going to drown. Sometimes she tries to swim out to me, or grab me when I surf in! But, that's her spirit, always concerned for others in a motherly, caring kind of way. So, rather than stress Rina out, we don't bring her with to my contests and adaptive surfing events. She much happier staying home, getting spoiled by our FURiends who watch her, and indulging in kongs & the other smorgasbord of treats left for her. One time, when she was at the beach while I was practicing, she stayed at the shore with mom. And, she was crying. I was surfing a wave in, and it kind of petered out. So, I was just standing on my board in the water, waiting for my handler to get to me. But, Rina thought I was in distress, so she swam out to me... which she never even liked being in waves. When I saw her swimming out to me, I got worried for her, so I jumped off my board and started swimming toward her. We were trying to rescue each other!! One of Rina's favorite things to do is carry packages up the driveway that the UPS driver or mail carrier drop off. Here's a video of Rina retrieving a special delivery package mailed especially for her from our Aunt Laureen. Rina is notorious for stealing mom's shoes!
